Santa Clara County Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission
The Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission's mission is to conserve, protect and preserve the environmental resources of our community through advocacy, education and outreach programs; to reuse, reduce, recycle and intelligently dispose of waste materials; and to promote composting, pollution and waste prevention and sustainable living practices for all the people in Santa Clara County.
The ten-member Commission is made up of select local elected officials that serve as the principal advisory body to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on countywide solid waste planning issues.
Members of the committees and subcommittees that advise the Commission are comprised of solid waste professionals from each city, the County, representatives of the private solid waste industry, business, and representatives of interested community organizations. The committees and subcommittees bring together a wide spectrum of viewpoints, assist in the development of countywide programs and plans, and provide a forum for exchange of solid waste, recycling, and other diversion information.

Waste that is dumped in our landfills is more than just unattractive; it pollutes local soil and waterways, takes up valuable land, and contributes to climate change. The good news is there are many ways we can reduce the waste that goes to those landfills. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste generated, and increase diversion of recyclables and organics from the landfill through our work with residents, businesses, schools, and others.
